John Wilkes Booth

LTW Paper Abraham Lincoln

Whether or not Booth should have left all those clues

“A house devided cannot stand,” Abraham Lincoln.  Booth walked into the crowed of people listening to Lincoln’s speech as he was outside standing outside his window. The Civil war was over and the Union had won but Booth would not let it end there he was going to capture the President. But then he had an idea, he would just kill him instead. Booth closed the door to his messy hotel room, where he would not be the next night. He had left many clues behind while on purpose or no one knows. But his mind was elsewhere, he would be a hero, he would kill Lincoln.

Everyone agrees Booth left a lot of clues in his hotel room. But some believed Booth should have left all those clues while others think Booth should not have left all those clues. Booth should have left all those clues for three reasons; he was in a hurry and had no time to waste, he wanted everyone to know he was the hero who killed Lincoln, and he believed he was doing the right thing and protecting his rights.

The first reason Booth should have left all those clues is that he was in a hurry and had no time to waste. He had to plan it perfectly with only a couple minutes where he could shoot Lincoln without being chased and his plan being ruined. His escape plan only worked if he was on time

The second reason Booth should have left all those clues is that he wanted everyone to know he was the hero who killed Lincoln. If he made it easy for people to track him he would be the famous hero. He wanted to be important. He thought the south would praise him because they could keep their slaves now that Lincoln would be dead.

The third reason Booth should have left all those clues is that he believed he was doing the right thing. He believed he needed to save America from Lincoln and that he was doing America a favor. And he believed that this was worth dying for if necessary.

But some people say that Booth should not have left all those clues because killing the President would cause more chaos. No slave problem would be resolved by killing the president and all the people who liked Lincoln would be angry. This is inadequate because Booth wasn’t trying to be a hero for the North he was only trying for the South.

They also say that he needed to flee quickly and cleanly. If he left clues then he would be found in no time and He had so many associates that it would be easy to track him if he left clues it would be obvious. This is inadequate because He wanted the Southerners to know it was he who was the hero.

Booth should have left all those clues because he was in a hurry and had no time to waste, he wanted everyone to know he was the hero who killed Lincoln, and he believed he was doing the right thing by protecting his rights. This matters to the police because they would need to find the clues to catch Booth.
