Lincoln put the Emancipation Proclamation into action after a Union victory. This order freed all slaves in any area of rebellion, but it did not free the slaves in the Union states. On November 19th, 1863 Lincoln visited Gettysburg for the cemetery where he gave the Gettysburg Address. This was a very famous speech that was only 272 words long. It didn’t have anything concerning slavery or the war or even the Union Army.

What did he do after he left office:

Lincoln never finished his time in office because of a man named John Wilks Booth. Booth didn’t think Lincoln was a fit president so he shot him while he was at a theater. After this assassination Booth expected to be a hero but while he was on the run to Mexico he read newspapers that read that he was wanted and the people didn’t think he had done them any favors.
